The
history of cyling in Konya goes to 1920's. In Turkey when anybody talks
about cyling almost everbody remember Konya.
In Konya cycling beginnt in 1923 by Idman Cemiyetleri Ittifaki. Becouse
of the eart surface of Konya it is very cammon and the users of cycle
in Konya is a record number in Turkey.
Gençlerbirligi which is build up in 1922 and Idmanyurdu which is build
up in 1923 were against to each other also in cycling
in 1930's, Nuri Yenal, Meramli Kazim Demirci,
Mehmet from Gençlerbirligi, Ali Saim Kıyıcı (who becoma a parlementer)
Himmet Ölçmen and Arap Selahattin from Idmanyurdu team made good roces.
The successfully sportmen of this term, Nuri Yenal, who became the boss
of Gençlerbirligi, was the second man in cycling in 1930. Then Saim Kiyici
was the first champion of Konya both in road and in veledrom in 1952.
The first veledrom was built in 1949 in Konya and began to use in 29
June 1950. Since 1955 Saim Kiyici, Mustafa Mest, Nezir Sonakin, Ahmet
Renkyorganci, Özmen Akkese, Nusret Ergül, Rifat Çaliskan, Ertan Tezer,
Mustafa Cengiz, Sadik Keles, Hasan Selçuk, Harun Sencan, Hasan Kilic,
Mevlüt Bora, Erol Öztorun, Erol Kücükbakirci, Ali Azınç, Seyit Kirmizi, Hasan Can,
Nurttin Kirpiksiz, Yusuf Ecevit, Mehmet Kücükçerezci, Adnan Tam, Ömer
Ali Erikci, Aziz Ay, Yasar Tekin, Kerim Demirbag, Ayhan Aytekin, Mehmet
Safakci, Hasan Gazyagcı, Ali Mesin, Tevfik Erdogdu were the names who was successfull about cycling in Konya.
After 1960 the team of Konya won more than 20 Turkish Championship.
The cyclist of Konya Erol Kücükbakirci was the first man who won the
Balkan Championship organized in 1973 in Istanbul, and also Seyit Kirmizi
won the International Turkish Touring at that time Nowadays in Konya
TEK Meramspor, Sekerspor, Köy Hizmetleri, Selçuklu Belediyespor, Çumra
Belediyespor and Gençlikspor are the cycling.
